§        General Education Assessment Category Teams (ACTs): 

 

There are 12 ACTs, one for each category of Binghamton University’s General Education program.  Working from criteria for learning outcomes approved by the Faculty Senate, each ACT evaluates course portfolios in relation to achievement of the goals for student learning.  Each ACT makes a written report to the campus every three years; it may suggest improvements or communicate issues arising in the category as a whole to any appropriate body, including departments, the University Undergraduate Curriculum Committee (UUCC), and the Educational Policy and Priorities Committee (EPPC).

 

 

§        Campus  Advisory Committees:

 

Bookstore – this committee is an operational committee charged with overseeing general operational concerns pertaining to the conduct of Vendor Relations (bookstore) on this campus.

 

Catering and the Chenango Room – this committee is an operational committee regarding operational concerns pertaining to the conduct of Vendor Relations (Catering and Chenango Room) on this campus.

 

Child Care – this committee is charged with overseeing the operation of the vendor selected to provide the services for childcare on campus.  The Committee should have an understanding and appreciation for the support of childcare in the University community.

 

Contract Dining Cash Food Sales – this committee is an operational committee overseeing operations of all food services on the campus with the exception of the Chenango Room and the catering operation.  This committee oversees operations and evaluates the mandatory meal plan which all resident undergraduates must join unless they have a medical exemption.

 

Vending – this committee is charged with overseeing general operational concerns pertaining to the conduct of Vendor Relations (vending) on this campus.

 

 

§        Other University Committees:

 

Commencement Advisory Committee - Make any necessary policy changes for commencement; interview applicants for student speakers at commencement.  The composition is an administrative chair, 2 other administrative members, the senior class council executive board (6 students), a faculty master, and two faculty members.

 

Council/Foundation Award Committee - One measure of the strength and vitality of an organization is the level of commitment and support from its community members.  In recognition of the fact, the Council/Foundation Award is presented annually at the fall Excellence Awards Dinner to individuals who have given outstanding service to the University.

 

Diversity Advisory Council – The committee will assess the climate for diversity, recommend appropriate enhancements and programming to ensure inclusiveness in every University endeavor and undertaking for full opportunity and advancement.

 

Experiential Education Advisory Committee – Experiential education is learning by doing.  It provides an environment in which students may put theory into practice.  Many forms of experiential education are offered at Binghamton University, including internships, volunteerism, fieldwork, projects, laboratory or clinical experience, studio experience, service learning, simulations and student teaching.  A coordinator reports to the director of the Discovery Program.

 

Fraternity/Sorority Leadership Board – The Board is comprised of five administrators, one faculty member, and six students.  The purpose of this Board is to examine and make recommendations on issues or policies that affect the entire Greek system.

 

Intercollegiate Athletics Board – Advise President on standards and policies for student athletic participation; planning the intercollegiate athletics program; funding for intercollegiate athletics; preparation of an annual report for the athletics program; other matters referred by President.

 

International Education Advisory Committee – The committee is responsible for advising the Provost on the academic merit, overall value and viability of agreements for international cooperation into which the University may wish to enter.  With an awareness of the mission and character of Binghamton University, the committee recommends immediate and long-term directions for the growth and development of international education.  The committee also advises the office of International Programs on the implementation of sound programming and suggests mechanisms for periodic evaluation of Binghamton’s international partnerships and study abroad programs.

 

Nomination Committee for Excellence in Classified Service – A selection committee composed of classified service employees, teaching faculty, professional employees and students will recommend no more than two nominees to President DeFleur for the award, which includes an honorarium.

 

Nomination Committee for Excellence in Faculty Service – This committee reviews dossiers of Binghamton University’s nominees’ for the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Faculty Service and submits to President DeFleur its recommendation regarding the nominees to be put forward by this campus.

 

Nomination Committee for Excellence in International Education – This committee, comprised of faculty, staff, and students, reviews the dossiers of the nominees for the University Award for Excellence in International Education and submits to the President its recommendation for the award winner.

 

Nomination Committee for Excellence in Librarianship – This committee, comprised of faculty, library faculty, and students, reviews dossiers of Binghamton University’s nominees for the Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence in Librarianship and submits to the President its recommendation regarding the nominees to be put forward by this campus.

 

Nomination Committee for Excellence in Professional Service – A selection committee composed of professional employees, teaching faculty, students, and other campus community members, will review nominations and recommend no more than two nominees to the President, who in turn will forward them on to the Chancellor’s Selection Committee as Binghamton’s nominees to be considered for Chancellor’s Awards.

 

Nomination Committee for Excellence in TeachingThis committee, comprised of faculty and students, reviews dossiers of Binghamton University’s nominees’ for the Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence in Teaching and submits to President DeFleur its recommendation regarding the nominees to be put forward by this campus.

 

Nomination Committee for Fulbright U.S. Graduate Student Program – This faculty committee reviews dossiers of Binghamton University’s nominees for the Fulbright U. S. Graduate Student Program.

 

Parking Advisory Committee – The committee is charged with reviewing all issues concerning parking and submitting an annual report.  Financial issues concerning parking should be considered as discussion items; however, the establishment of specific parking fees for employees, students, and visitors, will be a function of the Administration.  Issues concerning parking fees for union represented employees must be negotiated and, therefore, cannot be assigned to a Committee.

 

Parking Appeals Committee - The Vice President for Administration may appoint not more than three persons to serve as a Parking Appeals Board.  Since more than three constituencies are represented at Binghamton University, the Vice President appoints a representative from each constituency with the proviso that not more than three may sit at any appeals hearing.  The appointees are expected to arrange an agreeable, rotating schedule.  The board includes one professional staff person recommended by the Professional Employees Council, one classified staff person recommended by CSEA, one faculty member recommended by the Faculty Senate Executive Committee, one undergraduate student recommended by the Student Association, and one graduate student recommended by the Graduate Student Organization.

 

Personal Safety Advisory Committee – Review the reports of the task force and committees, assess the University’s progress in meeting those recommendations which require action, and bring to the attention of the senior administration any additional campus personal safety concerns which may require attention.

 

SEFA Campaign Committee - Committee of faculty and staff coordinate the annual SEFA campaign for the campus.  Usually entails 2-3 meetings per year (in the fall).  Chair of Committee has secretarial staff support from the President's Office.

 

University Transportation Committee – Meets once a month to discuss the transportation needs of students, faculty and staff at BU.  The committee reviews policies and procedures as they relate to OCCT, ESCAPE, BC Transit (on campus) and other transportation companies that wish to operate on campus.
